We have opened the doors to our second flagship in Japan, situated in the heart of Shibuya, Tokyo, one of the world’s most vibrant cultural intersections.
THE CONCEPT
The Shibuya flagship store marks a defining milestone in our journey, elevating the Tom Wood retail experience through a profound dedication to responsible design and uncompromising craftsmanship.
The 300-square-metre flagship store is located in the heart of Shibuya, near the iconic Scramble Crossing. The space embraces the surrounding neighbourhood, allowing the pulse of Shibuya to become part of the retail experience. Finished in our signature raked texture, the facade features floor-to-ceiling windows that invite the vibrant city life inside the store. By utilising materials pioneered in our Aoyama store, the exterior establishes a visual thread that connects our brand identity while signaling the evolution of our retail concept.
Beyond the facade, the store unfolds as a carefully choreographed journey, naturally guiding visitors through the space. Brutalist-inspired elements are balanced by lush greenery, incorporating a warm, organic feeling.
A 7.2-metre floating counter anchors the heart of the store, complemented by vertical display units lining the walls. These displays add a spatial experience, inviting customers to engage with the jewellery while moving intuitively through the store. Following the design language of our Oslo and Aoyama flagships, the displays feature modular mirrored glass panels transforming into a seamless, floating showcase for our collections. To ensure an intuitive experience, modular trolleys allow our staff to provide personalised assistance around the store, while the Archive Wall offers a permanent window into our brand heritage.

INTRODUCING: TOM WOOD LAB
Exclusive to the Shibuya flagship store, the Tom Wood LAB is a modern jewellery laboratory at the intersection of craftsmanship and innovation.
As an anchor point in the retail experience, the Tom Wood LAB is created to reflect our commitment to long-term care and uncompromising craft. The dedicated space offers insight into how our jewellery is maintained and refined, inviting clients to observe and experience craftsmanship at its finest.
The LAB offers on-site services such as jewellery personalisation, ring resizing, chain adjustments, gemstone exchanges and jewellery repair, performed exclusively on Tom Wood pieces to ensure total traceability and quality control. Built on strict safety standards and sustainable practices, the Tom Wood LAB represents an elevated retail experience, connecting in-house craftsmanship and the story of our brand.
CELEBRATING JAPANESE CRAFTSMANSHIP
Tom Wood Shibuya is designed in collaboration with renowned Japanese architecture firm Torafu Architects.
The close partnership cements our shared connection to craftsmanship and responsible practices, merging Nordic design principles and Japanese craft. The result is a tactile yet experimental environment, reflecting our mission of creating meaningful experiences beyond conventional retail.
Every store element, from custom stainless steel walls to bespoke lighting armatures, has been sourced, crafted, and designed in Japan. By collaborating closely with local contractors and artisans, we ensure our expansion remains rooted in the culture that hosts us.
The material palette reflects a commitment to responsible sourcing, blending industrial concrete-blasted surfaces and mirror-polished stainless steel with the warmth of locally sourced Pine and Oak wood. These elements create a tactile palette that highlights our dedication to thoughtful, sustainable design.
The in-store seating group is designed in collaboration with Japanese designer Kojiro Kitada, drawing inspiration from fallen logs in Scandinavian forests, a natural resting spot for hikers. The custom furniture offers a moment of pause amidst the city’s pulse, serving as a physical connection to our Norwegian roots.
Building on the essence of Tom Wood’s existing flagship stores, the design envisions the future of the brand — a spatial experience with fluid circulation and a welcoming lounge, inviting visitors to return again and again, not merely to shop, but to encounter something new each time.

In celebration of our new flagship store, we collaborated with Japanese artist Kaori Watanabe to create The Shibuya bag. The custom shopper embodies the spirit of Shibuya, featuring illustrations of iconic landmarks around the neighbourhood. Exclusively available in limited numbers at the flagship store.
