Happy New Year from Mona
Mona Jensen, the Founder and Creative Director wishes Tom Woods friends a happy new year! After almost 10 years on the journey, Mona talks about highlights in Tom Wood, her accomplishments and what’s next.
Q: What is your favourite collection/style?
The Cushion signet ring. It was with this piece the journey started and as a timeless piece worn by all genders and ages, it has remained the backbone of our identity ever since. The evolution of our classic cushion shape has since developed into new styles throughout the years, illustrating the importance of defining a solid shape and a foundation to build on. I believe that goes for everything in life. I’m also quite fond of the Tilt ring, the first ring I shaped with clay on my fingers. The ring represents to me the optimal balance of hardness and comfortability.
Q: Top three highlights from the Tom Wood timeline?
I hope the highlights are yet to come, but major moments from the past include the launch at Dover Street Market in London (2015), the rush I always have when visiting Tokyo to experience our strong position in Japan and finally moving into our new studio and showroom overlooking the beautiful Sofienberg park in Oslo (2021).
Q: What is your biggest accomplishment looking back?
To build a brand like Tom Wood, with products distributed across the best stores worldwide, was the major vision initially. However, now looking at our company it is the people in it and what we’re able to accomplish together I’m most proud of.
Q: How are you celebrating the new year?
I will be on my way back home to Norway from our family adventure to Thailand during Christmas. It’s been a tradition since our kids were babies, but this is the first Christmas after Covid where we’re able to go. We are very excited to be back for fantastic curries, bare feet in the sand, the most beautiful sunsets and total relaxation.
Q: What are your expectations for the year to come?
I am excited as Tom Wood turns 10 years in 2023! We will have so many great launches and happenings to take place throughout the year, so stay tuned.
Q: Can you tell us a secret about the upcoming anniversary launches?
Inspired by internal architectural structures, the Mesh ring represents a new and innovative take on my very first design and is therefore a natural starting point for marking our 10-year anniversary. The ring will launch in February accompanied by a few new styles which have received a sparkling birthday upgrade, including Vault and Cage ring.
Q: Where did you find your main inspiration working on finalising next year’s styles?
The main collection for next year’s 10-year anniversary takes inspiration from the great works of French artist Bernar Venet, particularly the layering of arched geometric lines. The collection has been named the Orb collection and will be launching in the spring.
Q: What is your main goal in 2023?
To stay happy, healthy and loved.
