Who is Sigve Aspelund?
Oslo-born, raised, and based photographer—directing, running a wine bar, and riding horses.

We partnered on a project a long time ago. Tell us about that.
I had known Mona for some time when she told me she was about to launch a jewellery brand. Everything Mona touches turns to gold, and I was lucky enough to be asked to shoot the first campaign. I think it still shines 13 years later.

Looking back at it all, what’s the highlight of your career so far?
I seldom look back. Working by myself my whole life has made me live in the moment, trying to highlight every day.

When are you the most creative?
Kind of all the time, on some level.

Morning or nighttime?
Morning—by the fireplace, with a cortado in my hand and my 11-month-old daughter on my lap. That’s magic.

Our recent collaboration was for the Umi capsule campaign and featured two horses. What’s your fascination with horses?

“When a horse and a human ‘connect,’ it is a powerful feeling and hard to explain. Imagine having a buddy with whom you share a mind—your thoughts become one, and suddenly, you are a 3-meter-tall creature, packed with 450 kilos of muscle and ready to explore at a fast pace.”

You own a wine bar—what’s the story there?

“I have an interest in fine wine and have always enjoyed life in restaurants and bars. When a friend asked if I would be interested in opening a bar in his space, I thought, ‘Why not... wine not?’ Yes, I’m a dad, and jokes like this come with the responsibility.”

Where do you find inspiration?
Basically, by people-watching. Diversity is key and needs to be protected— especially these days.

A creative person we should know?
Sollin’s life as a creator in New York, Maria Maaneskiöld’s drawings, and Karolina’s aesthetics are just three of many inspiring accounts to follow.

If you could open a museum, what would it be filled with?
Art. There’s not enough art in this world. The art of wining and dining, for example, needs a hall of fame.

What’s on the bucket list?
Start wearing jewellery and cross Iceland by horse. Not combined, though.

What are you looking forward to this year?
Raising my three daughters and loving my wife.
